Age Range: 18 – 36 months
Pre-school Class
The Montessori curriculum, techniques and materials in our stable satisfy the natural tendency for this age group. Independence, coordination, order, self-discipline and concentration are more developed at this stage.
In this phase, children’s language is developing rapidly and they are beginning to put their thoughts together and learning how to communicate. Joining in conversations with children is an important way for children to learn new things and to begin to think about past, present and future. Early number and language skills (e.g. Phonics) will be introduced in a fun and engaging way at this stage.
Developing physically, the children can now walk, climb, run, and join in active play with other children. This is an important time for learning about dangers and safe limits.
Age Range: 3 – 5 months
Nursery
Here, the children continue to learn and develop their skills through a more structured work time. The main areas of learning are:
- Numeracy
- Literacy
- Sensorial
- Cultural
- Practical life
- Theme
Children also continue to expand their social skills as they play together and make lasting friendships which fosters self-confidence, independence and self-esteem.
The class is arranged according to the learning areas. As a continuation of the early learning experience from the preschool classroom, children of this age group are able to work with more complex exercises/activities. The activities are mainly hands-on, fun and concrete at this stage and this sets the basis for later development in abstract concepts. Early mathematical skill, word building skill and early writing skill are taught here. The foundation is also laid at this stage for good work and proper social habits.
